During the performance by members of the Hamburg and Hanover groups at the German National TR Meeting in Bad Neuenahr/Ahrweiler, we revealed where the next meeting will take place – in Soltau in the heathlands. The polo shirts were also coloured to match the heath blossoms. How and when did the Lüneburg heathlands as we know them today develop? In the Neolithic period (from around 5,500 to 2,000 BC), the first farmers settled in this landscape. The forest was cleared. However, the soil was not very fertile and quickly became depleted, so the land was left to nature.

Heather ‘colonised’ the fallow land. In the Middle Ages, the "Heidschnucke" sheep became the economic backbone of the farmers. Today, Heidschnucke sheep no longer play the main role in the economy, which is now dominated by grain and potatoes. However, they are indispensable for landscape conservation and the preservation of the Lüneburg Heath nature reserve. In addition, the heathland is an ideal area for beekeeping and the production of healthy, delicious heath honey. In the next section, we'll tell you more about the ‘Hotel Park Soltau’ hotel and the unique surroundings of the Lüneburg Heathland Nature Reserve. Another unique thing is that we'll be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the TR-Register Deutschland e.V. there from 22 to 25 May 2026.

The hotel is located in a forest area, which already ensures a natural and relaxed atmosphere. Our TRs can be conveniently parked on the premises. The hotel has 119 double rooms and 66 single rooms, two of which are barrier-free. We have the entire hotel at our disposal over the Whitsun public holidays.
